Plumbing keeps you healthy!
The plumbing system in your home is not something we think about everyday but we use it everyday. It removes all the unwanted fifth that would have build up and caused sickness. You should hug your plumber, he is saving your life! With a nice flush or swirl in the drain our filth and dirt leave the sanctity of our Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley homes. We are clean, thanks to your plumbing. But this wasn’t always the case. In 1885 Mrs. H.M. Plunkett wrote a reference book called Women, Plumbers, and Doctors on Household sanitation. Her description reads “Showing that, if women and plumbers do their whole sanitary duty, there will be comparatively little occasion for the services of the doctors.” Her goal was to educate the women of the house as to how important sanitation was to the prevention of communicable diseases. Smart lady! Science was in the infancy of discovering bacteria and the diseases it causes, previously disease like typhoid where thought to be air born or hereditary. If you ever get a hankering for some good old fashioned sanitary talk check out her book.
Today and we have disease free water with convenient delivery to several locations in our homes. Our waste products are simply and effectively removed completely not just drained into the basement and left to dry out and then later removed….no I’m not kidding. Thomas Crapper is generally credited with inventing the toilet but he actually improved its design and promoted it’s used, he is a hero! So thanks Mr. Crapper and plumbers everywhere from saving us from hook works, diarrhea, cholera, cyanobacteria toxins, dengue, hepatitis, encephalitis, leptospirosis, malaria, ring worm, scabies and polio. I’m feeling healthier already.
